State of the Union: A beautiful day to play golf after all of that rain and humidity! There
were a couple of Bookers who forgot to enter the lottery this week. Fortunately, both courses were available and
finding a tee time wasn’t too much of a scramble. We had two groups out on the Sunningdale
course and ten groups on the West course. There were a number of players who
were unavailable this week and from yesterday through to this morning, seven
players had to cancel for one reason or another. Consequently, we had 40
golfers teeing it up today, which tied our season low for participants.
Huffman Wall of Fame Inductee: Raise your glass, for today, Mr. Victor Harris aced hole #13 on
the Sunningdale course to become the fifth player in 24 years of
Huffman golf to ace a hole during league play. Victor joins Derrick Coyle, (Aug 31, 2020);
Bill Rivard, (May 14, 2018); Ron Haves, (Aug 15, 2016) and Paul Jackson, (July
11, 2011) as an inductee into the Huffman Wall of Fame. Congratulations Victor!
For the record, Vic had a virgin Caesar as his drink of choice. This was Victor’s
third hole-in-one of his career!
Ace Ventura, Pet Detective: No secret today as Mr. Victor Harris rode his ace on hole #13 of
the Sunningdale course all the way to the top of the podium with 45 quota
points! According to his Booker, the ball was on line with the flag stick
from the very start and dropped in the hole like it had eyes! I hope all the
Huffman players were able to cash in on Victor’s good fortune. Speaking of good fortune, this was Vic’s
second mister designation of the season!
Congratulations, super duper and holy cow!
A Quartet for Two? What a duel for silver! Four gentlemen
tied for second place this week. All four ended their rounds with 43 quota
points and all four had 2 birdies apiece, Wowzah! First in was Brian
McCall. Brian had not played with us since June 10 and his 7 pay
points today represented his first pay points of the season. The hiatus obviously worked for Brian as he rendered
a birdie on hole #8 and then closed his case with a birdie on the 18 hole! Well-articulated Brian!
Not to be out-played, Mike Belanger birdied
hole #2, (WC) and then capped off his round like a nice gold crown by also birdying,
(birdieing?), the 18 hole. Mike made quota points on 16 holes today. Well played Mikey!
The next two gentlemen to cap off this quartet were
in the same group and were featured on the web-site Home page! See, it pays to have
your picture taken. Grant Gardner birdied
the 8th and 11th hole (WC) enroute to a very nice score
of 84. He was telling me today that he recently
shot a 79. I said if you shoot that score today you will get the mister designation. Second place is still pretty good. Grant’s 84 is going once, twice… sold for 7
pay points!
Well, well, well, the Big “V” is up to it
again. The Huffman pay point leader just
extended his lead over the pack. The big dog is starting to howl. Victor Vigna is playing great golf on
Monday. His two birdies came back-to-back
on holes 5 and 6. Vic, just open wide
and say aaaah… I feel good!
Three Musketeers: For the second consecutive play date, it was a three-way tie for third
place. As sharp as swords, Tom Wey, Gordon
Salmon and Bob Coates all brandished their golf skills to the tune
of 40 quota points! Tom is also having a strong season and was one of seven
players today that had two birdies! Tom
birdied holes 10 and 12 (WC) as he shot a nice round of 82. Again, Wey to go
Tom!
Second in with 40 quota points was Gordon
Salmon. Gord has done well since moving
up to the yellow tees. Gord birdied the
13 hole, (WC) and made quota on 15 holes today to shoot an 84. Good as smoked
salmon Gordon!
Capping off the Winner’s Circle was Bob Coates who
shot a 90 from a Y24 handicap. He was the only player in the Winner’s Circle
without a birdie or an eagle this week.
See it can be done. Nice job RC!
Rookie on the Board: Shout-out to first year player John Bulmer who made his first pay point
of the season today. Hopefully there are
more to come for John.
Monday Stats that may interest only me;
Lowest rounds of the day: Ed Wszol with a very quiet round of 81 on the WC today. His split was 40/41,
no birdies. Seconding Ed’s 81 was Vic Vigna with his two front nine birdies and
a split of 37/44.
Top Bird Dog: Hey, one
eagle and 20 birdies today! Two is not a lonely number. Seven players ended
their rounds with two birdies. Brian McCall, (8,18 WC); Tom Wey, (10,12 WC); John
Schuurmans, (6,16 WC); Vic Vigna, (5,6 WC) and Grant Gardner, (8,11 WC) all cashed
their birdies. Unfortunately, Gerry Marcus, had two birdies from the blue tees,
(#5, 8 WC) and did not cash them in!
Larry Nielsen, hole #6, Derrick Coyle, hole #1 and Gary Plomske, hole #7,
(all WC), also failed to cash their birdies. All other Eagles and Birdies are
listed below.
Best Played Hole by one 4-Some: When we had only 6 four-somes on the course, hole #2, (WC), was played
to even par as follows… Mike Belanger, birdie. Pars for Ed Wszol and Sam
Swaminath. Bogie for John Schuurmans. This group had 5 birdies on the day!
All pay points earners are
listed here. A total of 17 golfers
exceeded the 36-point threshold for a total of 65 Pay Points.
