State of the Union: Well, we surpassed last week’s participation numbers - in a negative
way. There were 8 last minute
cancellations and/or no shows, resulting in 36 golfers playing today. I
suspect the participation numbers were lower than normal due in large part to
the Club “C” this past weekend. We had four
2-somes, four 3-somes and four 4-somes. The good news during these last two
weeks is that no “single” was left out of a game.
NATO Early Warning Control System: As per my covering email this week, I copied this and posted it here for
maximum exposure…
I am sure most of you are aware of the Sunningdale
E-mail regarding changes to the West course in the Spring of 2025?
There was also an article on the front page of the
Free Press on Friday noting how Sunningdale was turning golf holes into homes.
I always said that I would not run the Huffman
league if we did not have 36 holes. With
tournaments, rainouts, aeration, lottery shut-outs etc., administratively it
becomes a challenge “with headaches.”
I will wait until next season to see what the Club
has in mind before making any definitive decisions.
Just giving everyone the heads up.
From Last to Well… Much Better: Hey, hey it can be done. Going
into today’s game, this gentleman did not own a single pay point. Moving up in the standings from dead last to
T33, please raise your left-handed putter for Mr. Philip Faulkner. Phil has received the mister designation in previous
season but he broke the “0-for” streak today in a really nice way. Phil had 5 front nine pars, a birdie on hole
#11 and a par on 18 for a total of 44 quota points! Congrats Phil, a great
way to “phinesse” the “phinish.”
Holy Doodles. This new-comer
to Sunningdale and rookie to our league took a while to acclimate himself to
his new golf surroundings. John
Bulmer started with one pay point on Aug 12, two more the following week
and today he jumps onto the podium with six pay points while earning 42 total
quota points! John was part of the
feature group and as I keep saying, it pays to be in pictures. John did most of his scoring on the front
nine earning at least one pay point on 7 holes. Way to bomb it out there today,
John.
Quelle Suprise: Back on
July 29, this gent made the silver platform.
The former insurance-man went rogue today, decided to adjust his tee
color and he came up with a good “quota” for himself. Bruce Anderson moved from a W21
handicap to a Y17 and made quota points on 16 holes. He shot a very respectable score of 82,
almost good enough for the day’s lowest round.
Nicely done Brucey Bruce!
And thanks to Bruce, the real surprise was that there
were no ties on the podium. Bruce won the battle as you will see below, as five
players came in with 40 quota points.
Monday Stats that may interest only me;
Lowest round of the day: Gerry Marcus was pretty darn good over on the Sunningdale course.
He shot a very nice 81 with a 40/41, and quelle surprise, no birdies.
Top Bird Dog: Holy Moly ‘cause I already said Holy Doodles, but Gordon Good
had two birdies today, (holes 11 and 16.) Quelle surprise, Bruce Anderson
dragged Gord’s butt up to the yellow tees dropping his handicap to a Y6! The two birdies were “Good”, but not good
enough to earn a pay point! Eric Allen, birdie on hole #5, Sam
Swaminath, birdie on #6, and Julian Oates, a birdie on #6 as well,
all failed to cash their pork chops!
There were only 12 birdies today.
All other birdies are listed below.
Best Played Hole by one 4-Some: As noted, only 4 four-somes on the course for the second straight play
date. On the West course, hole 2, 5 and
7 were played to even par. In the Feature Group of John Irwin, Lyn Sartori, Eric
Allen and John Bulmer made even par on holes 2 and 5. On #2, it was a birdie for J.Irwin, pars for Eric and J.Bulmer, bogie for Lyn. On hole
#5, it was a birdie for Eric, pars for J.I and Lyn, bogie for J.B. The Neilsen group played hole #7 to even par
with four pars, from Larry, Kent Clark, Steve Goodwin and Sohan Samra. Nicely done guys
All pay points earners are
listed here. A total of 19 golfers
exceeded the 36-point threshold for a total of 59 Pay Points.
