Since 1934: The former
third hole of the Thompson course, now #18 of the West course is a beautiful
hole. Over these many, many years, there
have been thousands of errant tee shots, many of which just dribbled over the tee
block and into the ravine. I am not going to bet on it, but I think today was the
first time we ever had a player’s car dribble over the white tee block and into
the ravine! The player’s identity will remain anonymous on this write up. I
understand that the vehicle was in neutral. The player was on the first hole
when the car started to roll. Thankfully, no one was hurt, nothing was hit,
broken etc. The car was towed out and able to be driven home carrying one very
embarrassed player! That’s history and a story for his grandkids this week.
Senior Club Championship: There were 18
Huffman Player’s, (or 31% of our league members), who entered this year’s
event. Ed Wzsol won the most money by
pocketing $440.00 after winning the 50/50 draw.
Ernie Miatello won three guest passes worth $375.00. Gordon Good was 1St low net, 65-69
age group, pocketing $90.00 with a two-day total of 140.
Dave Webster 1st low net, 75-79 age
group, $90.00 with a two-day total 145.
Bill Rivard was 2nd low gross in the 75-79 group for $70.00,
169 total. Steve Goodwin, 2nd
low net, 75-79, $70.00 with a 149. David Ballingall was 1st low net
in the 80+ group with a two day 145 for $90.00.
Like wine, maturing with age. Well done mates!
Huffman Players With Hole-in-Ones: On Wednesday, June 26, Gary Plomske aced hole #4 of the West course. His first hole-in-one was at the tender age
of 62. Now he has had four over the past 16 years. Next question, what is his age now?
On Friday, July 5, Rahul Manchanda aced #7 of the
West course. This is Rahul’s favourite
hole as he has aced it twice in his career. He had a Ginger Beer and the Club
gave him a bottle of wine that he could pick from the menu, of a value not
exceeding $100. He selected a French
vintage. Congrats guys!
State of the Union: Forty-six golfers were counted on the excel spreadsheet today. We had two DNF’s and two no-shows otherwise
the turnout would have been most impressive.
I covered this in my email but I will mention it again. The stats will be delayed a day or two next
week. Booker’s, please make sure the cards are in so that I don’t have to go
looking for them once I start the process.
Lone Ranger: This
gent made a birdie on hole #3 of the West course on his way to the mister
designation. Playing from a Y27 handicap,
Mr. Victor Harris, came home with 45 total quota points to bring
home the hardware. Vic reached the winner’s
circle last week in a third-place tie, but he climbed all the way to the top this
week, sans Tonto! Well played Vic.
Three for Second: Another week, another three-way tee for second place. These gents all came home with 43 quota
points. First in was Tom Wey. He had a rough outing in the Senior
Club “C” but made up for that today with two birdies and a smooth score of 82
from a W17 handicap. Wey to go Tom!
Second in with 43 quota points was Lyn Sartori. Lyn
currently held the lead for most birdies without any pay points. Today he birdied hole #5, just missing the
eagle from about 110 yards out. These
were the first pay points of the season for Lyn!
And third on the silver podium this week, just about
shooting his age with a round of 89, was Robert, (Bob) Coates. Bob has
had a good start to the season adding 7 more pay points this week to the eight
previously earned.
Super Duper Boys!
Survival of the Fittest: Man, the dogs were barking at this gent’s heels today as five players
had 41 quota points. When it took 42
quota points to reach the winner’s circle, John Levasseur, held of
the pack with a howling score of 81! John
was without a pay point up until last week and now he has 14 on the
season. He is getting hot at just the
right time. Nice JL!
Monday Stats that may interest only me;
Lowest round of the day: Ed (50/50) Wszol had the lowest round of the group today with a great
80, (39/41 split). Ed held on to that
title by holding off three other players who had 81, (Larry Nielsen, Gerry
Marcus and John Levasseur.)
Top Bird Dog: On a day when
we had 20 birdies, three players tied with two apiece. Tom Wey, John
Schuurmans and last weeks birdie leader Julian Oates. Those who made a birdie
but did not make the pay point cut were Denis Gagnon (#11), Mike Belanger (#7),
Sohan Samra (#16) and Gordon Good, (#1). All other pork chop putts are listed
below.
Best Played Hole by one 4-Some: On a day when we had 8 four-somes on the course, hole #5 and
hole #6 were played to -1. John
Levasseur’s group on #5 had birdies from Eric Allen and John Irwin, with a par
from John and a bogie from Clark Leith.
On hole #6, the Anderson group with birdies from Bruce and Vipin Bhayana,
a par from Gerry Marcus and a bogie from Bill Gray. I’ll say this, the
Levasseur group had 20 pay points between them today, Wowzah!
All pay points earners are
listed here. A total of 28 golfers
exceeded the 36-point threshold for a total of 107 Pay Points!
