State of The Union, Jack: Funny thing, two people thanked “me”? for the weather today. One was
from our Huffman group, and the other was from the Women’s Past President’s
Day. Two groups were shut out from their
lottery bids however all players were able to get into a game. The Sunningdale course was pretty open which
made it easy to book back in. A couple
of last-minute cancellations, one DNF, for a total of 48 golfers hitting the
links today. Really, what a beauty day. Our group likes the warm weather based
on the pay points awarded!
Swing easy. Welcome back Lindsay Somerville who was
off most of June for “medical stuff”.
Notables: Two Huffman
rookies made their pay point debut today, Ian Shewan and Vipin Bhayana both had
3 pay points!
Hey Mister Ornithologist: As you are well aware, ornithology is the branch of science devoted to studying
birds. Well, these two mister recipients had their binoculars dialed in today.
First in with 2 birdies, (on holes 10 and 18) was Mr.
John Levasseur. Those were book-end back nine birdies giving John 44
quota points and his first pay points of the season! John shot an 82 which
was his second-best round of the year. (I only know this because he is my
scotch-two ball partner).
Not to be out done, this birdman drained three
birdies and just missed a fourth. Mr.
Julian Oates had a splendid round today being the first Huffman player this
season to break 80, with a super-duper score of 78! That was worth the price
of a Stella. Very well played JL and
JO!
I have to go to the Mint for More Silver: A three-way tie for second place this week. All three of these gents garnering 42
quota points apiece. Keeping the
birdie machine alive with two was Ed Wszol.
Ed birdied holes 6 and 10 and shot a very nice round of 80 with a consistent
39/41 split. Pretty much a wowzah event
Ed!
Next in with 42 quota points was the man
super himself, Kent Clark. Kent shot an 82 with a great back nine score
of 38 making at least one pay point on every hole on the back nine except
#12. Beauty.
Third in was, Alvin Krische. Al has
had his struggles this year but for the last two weeks he has found his
grove. He has dropped his handicap 4
strokes after posting 6 pay points. Al shot a 96 with 5 pars on the
round. That was AoK today,
Al.
It is Crowded at The Top: Just barely making it to the winner’s circle this week was the trio of Victor
Harris, Sam Swaminath and Mark Thompson.
All three came in with 41 quota points. This was Sam’s second straight week on
the podium as he earned it with two birdies and a score of 87. Sam has found his niche on the yellow tee
blocks.
Vic Harris more than doubled his previous pay point
output by garnering 5 of them today. Vic
played the Sunningdale course and had three consecutive birdies on holes 6, 7
and 8. Well played Vic.
Finally, your convenor had a grand round of 81 and I
scored quotas on 16 of the 18 holes. It
was perfectly fine.
Monday Stats that may interest only me;
Lowest round of the day: Mr. Oates with his great 78. A 39/39 split!
Top Bird Dog: Yes, Julian’s
three birdies led the way on a day when we had 22 birdies. Five gents had two birdies apiece as you will
see below. Those who made a birdie but
did not make the pay point cut were John Schuurmans, (#12), Chris Kempling (#1
S.C.) and Phil Faulkner, (#10).
Best Played Hole by one 4-Some: On a day when we had 10 four-somes on the course, Larry Nielsen’s
group played #12 West to -1. Lone birdie to John Schuurmans and three pars for
Larry, Ernie Miatello and Ian Shewan!
All pay points earners are
listed here. A total of 26 golfers
exceeded the 36-point threshold for a total of 95 Pay Points!
