State of the Union: We were back into the forties for numbers this week. There were 2 no shows and 1 DNF for a total of 41 members teeing it up.  Seven, four-somes, 4 three-somes and a single.

An October Fall Classic? If we get the remaining September Monday play dates in, our league will have played 15 games.  I know several people are traveling and hockey is starting up so if we have enough interest, I will schedule a play date for October 7.  Please let me know of your availability/interest as quickly as possible.

The Aces Just Keep Coming: Two Huffman players made a hole in one last week. Larry Nielsen started things on Monday September 2, (stat holiday), with an Ace on hole #7 of the West course, much to the delight of his playing partners, (Theresa Nielsen, Derrick and Sue Coyle).  It was Larry’s first career hole in one. He had a Stella and ordered the Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It should be noted, that Theresa and Sue did not see the hole in one as they were too busy talking about how wonderful their husbands are!?

Tom Wey ended the week with an ace, on Friday September 6, on the same hole as Larry, with myself, Ernie Miatello and John Levasseur watching it drop in. This was Tom’s second career hole-in-one. He Aced this same hole a few years earlier.  Tom had a Stella and took home a red 2018 Italian Masi that Ernie suggested.

Super duper boys! I have their hole-in-one photos up under the “Year’s Stats” tab.

Oldsmobile Delta 88: The car is a classic and so was this gentleman’s golf game today.  He is 88 years old, always takes a golf cart and he told me on the 17 green that if he pars the 18 hole, he will shoot his age.  He ended up shooting an 89!  Mr. Robert Coates is the top driver this week, garnering 42 quota points during his round. Bob made all of his quota without the aid of a birdie.  He will now be able to get himself a nice pair of racing gloves for his golf ride. Classic Bob!

A Fivesome of Fours. I feel like Oprah giving out prizes for this bonanza of golfers who tied for second place.  First of all, they all ended up with four pay points, (40 quota points.) First into the scorer’s table was Guill Rishchynski.  Guill did not have a single pay point going into today. He was playing in only his fourth league game, broke the “O-for” streak as he made it count.  Guill did not make a birdie but he made a quota on 17 holes today!  A well done grill, Guill.

Next in was Alvin Krische.  Al started slow this season but has come on nicely to earn four more pay points while shooting a bird-less 89 today.  Way to go AK!

Sohan Samra, one of four true league rookies this year added to his haul by making a birdie on the 7 hole. Sohan shot a very nice round of 83, making a quota on 14 holes today. Those birdies help to make up for the doubles.  Nicely played Sohan!

Next to make the 40 quota point grade was 50-year Sunningdale member Dave Broughton.  Dave, like Sohan, shot an 83, but Dave made his the hard way without a “one-under.” Dave also made quota on 14 holes adding to his previously earned 6 pay points on the season. Super Davey.

Last in with 40 quota points on the day was Eric Allen. This is the second time this year that Eric has reached the 40 quota point total, bringing his season pay point earnings to a sweet 16.  No birdies for Eric but he shot an 86.  Well done EA and enjoy the President’s Cup in Montreal!

A Fivesome of Threes: I am running out of ink on an ink-less lap top.  Five gentlemen also made the podium in third place, bringing home 39 quota points apiece.  First in, after arriving home from the Buffalo Bill’s home opener was John Irwin. John shot the low round of 82 today, with a birdie on hole #17 to reach that milestone.

Roy Perovich, who is moving quite nicely and very quietly up the pay point leaderboard now has a total of 20 pay points on the season.  Roy birdied the 18 hole and shot a good score of 90 today to reach the threshold of 39 this week.

Derrick Coyle made a quota on 14 holes today to earn his 3 pay points.  Derrick was birdie-less too, during his round but had a very curvy score of 88 today!

Lindsay Somerville reached the podium with a grand score of 83 and is starting to hit his grove again.  The three pay points today brings Lindsay’s total to 10 on the season.

This just in, a report from the Sunningdale course.  We had one four-some who played on “that side” today. I am happy to report that Desmond Charles Dutrizac carried the day for the gang “over there”, firing a 92.  Des had a nice front nine earning quota on 8 of those holes.

Well, I am pretty much typed-out, my superlatives are wanning and wine is waiting.

Great job everyone!!

Monday Stats that may interest only me;

Lowest round of the day: Long John (Bronze) Irwin with a score of 82 is low man on the totem pole.  It was a 41/41 split. Nothing like a nice quiet Bill’s season opener to get you fired up.

Top Bird Dog: Holy Cow, we only had six birdies today!  Half of those birdies were made by people who did not breach the 36-point threshold. They are, Gerry Marcus, hole #4, Grant Gardner, hole #5 and Gordon Salmon, hole #11.  The other three birdies are listed below.

Best Played Hole by one 4-Some: I may stand to be corrected on this one but Gerry Coffin’s group of Gerry, Dave Broughton, John Bulmer and Denis Gagnon all made par on the 18 hole.

All pay points earners are listed here.  A total of 22 golfers exceeded the 36-point threshold for a total of 54 Pay Points.
